The strength of social media is that it is built upon real relationships. It is a critcal and powerful intstrument to connect with prospective and current students, staff, faculty, and alumni. When creating a new social media account or maintaining a current one, you will first need to develop a strategy. Having a plan is essental for your account's success and necessary to develop before creating new accounts. The Dietrich School's communications team can help you create a social medai content calendar that will save you time, provide a visual, keep your content up to date, and help you measure performance. 

Best Practices 

Please keep in mind the following best practices when maintaining a current social media account or creating a new one.
 
  • Determine your audience and define your goals.
  • Maintain a consistent schedule and engage with followers.
  • Monitor comments and consider posting a disclaimer or comment politcy to let audience members know what is and is not appropriate. Review and approve comments before they appear. 
  • Measure for results. Make use of analytics and tracking tools to evaluate posting activitities and interactiosn with audience. 
  • Use existing social media accounts such as the Dietrich School's Twitter account and the University's Facebook, Twitter and Instagram accounts for more traction. 
  • Be energetic and enthusiastic; be authentic; and be responsive.
